Need water damage help in Liverpool? Stop the water if you safely can, keep away from wet electrics, then call 07777 659786. We find the source of the leak, remove standing water, dry the building with dehumidifiers and air movers, and keep moisture readings so you have a clear record for your landlord or insurer.

What does water damage restoration involve?

Water damage restoration is the process of getting a building back to a dry, safe and repairable state after a leak or flood. It is not the same as mopping up. Water soaks into plaster, timber floors, screed and insulation, and it keeps spreading long after the visible puddle has gone. If those materials are not dried properly, you can end up with blown plaster, cupped floorboards, a musty smell and mould weeks later.

A proper job follows a clear order:

  1. Make safe. Isolate the water supply and check whether electrics in the wet area need to be switched off by an electrician.
  2. Find the source. If the cause isn’t obvious, we use leak detection methods such as thermal imaging, moisture meters and pressure testing to pinpoint it without ripping out more than needed.
  3. Remove the water. Standing water is pumped or vacuumed out with water extraction equipment.
  4. Map the moisture. Readings are taken across walls, floors and ceilings to see how far the water has travelled and to set a drying target.
  5. Dry the structure. Dehumidifiers and air movers are set up and checked until materials return to their normal dry readings. This is structural drying.
  6. Record and hand over. You get the readings and photos, so your builder, landlord or insurer can see the property is dry before repairs start.

Water damage services we cover in Liverpool

Most calls fall into a handful of situations. Each one needs a slightly different approach, so we have written a dedicated page for each:

Leaks you can’t find

A damp patch on a ceiling, a rising water bill or a boiler that keeps losing pressure usually means a hidden leak. Our leak detection service in Liverpool traces leaks on heating pipes, water mains, showers and underfloor pipework, then marks the exact spot so the repair is small and quick.

Burst pipes and escape of water

Burst pipes are most common in cold snaps, when pipes in lofts, garages and outside walls freeze and split. A burst can release a lot of water in a short time. See our page on burst pipe repairs and clean-up for what to do in the first ten minutes, and our guide to escape of water insurance claims if you plan to claim.

Ceilings soaked from above

Water coming through a ceiling is one of the most frightening things to see at home. Plasterboard can sag and fall when it is saturated. Our page on ceiling water damage explains when a ceiling is unsafe and how it is dried or replaced.

Flooding and sewage

Rainwater coming in at ground level, a cellar taking on water or a drain backing up are very different from a clean pipe leak. Water from outside or from drains can carry contamination, so the clean-up has to include removal of affected materials and sanitising. Read about flood damage restoration and sewage clean-up.

Damp and mould after a leak

If a leak was left too long, mould often follows. We deal with the cause first, then the affected materials — see mould removal after water damage.

Common water damage problems and how they are fixed

What you notice Likely cause Usual fix
Brown stain spreading on a ceiling Leaking shower tray, bath seal, pipe joint or radiator valve above Trace the leak, repair it, dry the ceiling void, then make good
Boiler pressure keeps dropping Leak on the heating system, often under floors Pressure testing and thermal imaging to locate the leak
Floorboards lifting or laminate swelling Water trapped under the floor covering Lift coverings where needed and dry the subfloor
Musty smell and black spots Damp that has been there for weeks Fix the source, remove affected materials, dry, treat
Water in a cellar after rain Groundwater or drainage problems Pump out, clean, dry and investigate the drainage
Unexplained high water bill Leak on the supply pipe, inside or outside Meter checks and acoustic or tracer gas leak detection

Our water damage problems guide covers more of these signs and what they usually mean.

Why fast drying matters

Clean water from a pipe does not stay clean for long. As it sits in carpets, timber and plaster it picks up dirt and starts to support bacteria and mould. The longer materials stay wet, the more likely they are to need replacing rather than drying. Acting quickly is usually the difference between drying a floor and ripping it out.

Drying is also about the right equipment. Opening windows and putting the heating on helps a little, but it rarely gets water out of the structure of a building. Refrigerant or desiccant dehumidifiers, air movers and, in some cases, specialist floor-drying systems pull moisture out of materials in a controlled way, and readings show when the job is genuinely finished.

Insurance and escape of water claims

Many home insurance policies cover damage from an “escape of water” — water leaking from pipes, tanks, appliances or heating systems — and some include “trace and access” cover for finding the leak. Every policy is different, so check your documents or call your insurer early. Take photos before anything is moved and keep receipts. Our escape of water claims page explains the usual steps, and the water damage cost guide explains what affects the price if you are paying yourself.

Safety first

If water has reached light fittings, sockets or the consumer unit, do not touch them. Keep out of the room and call an electrician or your energy network’s emergency number. If a ceiling is bulging, keep everyone out from underneath it. If you smell gas, leave the property and call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999.

Frequently asked questions

What should I do first if I have water damage?

Turn off the water at the stopcock if it is safe, switch off electrics in the affected area only if you can do so safely from a dry place, move valuables out of the way, take photos, and call 07777 659786. Don't use electrical appliances in standing water.

How long does it take to dry a house after a leak?

It depends on how much water there was, how long it sat, and what the building is made of. A small, recent leak into plasterboard may dry in a few days. Saturated screed floors, solid walls or cellars can take a few weeks. Moisture readings tell us when materials are genuinely dry — not a fixed number of days.

Will my insurance pay for water damage?

Many home insurance policies cover sudden escape of water, and some include trace and access cover for finding the leak. Gradual leaks, wear and tear and lack of maintenance are often excluded. Check your policy wording or call your insurer before work starts.

Can water-damaged plaster and floors be saved?

Often, yes, if drying starts quickly. Plaster and timber can usually be dried in place. Materials that have been soaked by dirty water, have collapsed, or have started to grow mould normally need to be removed.

Do you cover my area?

We cover Liverpool and the rest of Merseyside, including Sefton, Knowsley, St Helens and Wirral, plus Widnes. See our areas page or call 07777 659786 to check.

Do you find leaks as well as dry the damage?

Yes. Finding the source is the first step. We use non-invasive methods such as thermal imaging, moisture mapping, pressure testing and tracer gas to locate leaks before drying starts.

Water where it shouldn't be?

Turn off the water at the stopcock if it is safe to do so, keep away from wet electrics, and call us. We'll tell you what to do next and arrange a visit.
